As a working mom of, almost, 4 kids, my whole focus is maximization. How do I have a productivity routine that maximizes every minute of the day. That may sound exhausting, but let me explain.

Productivity morning routine

When I’m with my kids, I want to be WITH them and fully present. When I’m doing a workout, I want to be fully present. Getting every ounce of energy from that workout. And when I’m at work, I want to be fully present maximizing every hour of the day.

It’s not about always being at 100% but more about being fully present for whatever I’m doing at the time. If it’s time to relax, fully relax.

This post is all about the best productivity routine for working moms.

Top Productivity Routine Tips

1. Morning routine list

Having the best morning routine for energy is crucial as a working mom. My advice is to do something first thing that fills you up. Get up early, make that time sacred. For me, I wake up 1 hour before my kids, use 30 minutes to read and journal and 30 minutes to work on my blog.

Once the kids are awake, I start the breakfast routine and then get ready routine. My soul is filled up and my mind feels sharp after having a little bit of work done before starting the morning routine with the kids.

I also carve out time to review the agenda for the day (work and home), brain dump important tasks, make calendar adjustments and get myself ready.

Focusing on having productivity morning routine will set the tone for the rest of your day.

2. Win the day by winning the morning

Hal Elrod wrote this and it’s a quick way to set up a great morning routine. I highly recommend it if you have no idea where to start when starting your morning routine. Great productivity tips and best practices as well.

3. Multi task where it makes sense

Now, this is super controversial. But as moms, we are multi tasking constantly. My favorite way to multi task is my new walking pad! I can get my steps in while knocking out some low intensity work or listening to a podcast.

4. Systematize everyday tasks

What’s for breakfast or lunch? Have it pre-planned or, better yet, premade. What to wear to work? Pick out all your outfits on Sundays or have the same go-to wardrobe everyday.

Another great hack is to meal plan every month for the entire month. This way the grocery list and meal prep isn’t having to be done so often and only needed to be touched 12 times per year!

5. Involve kids in chores

Training your kids to be able to do daily tasks for themselves too is going to save so much time and effort on your end and theirs. It’s so crucial. My kids are young and by 3 they can get themselves dressed, brush their teeth, comb their hair and make their bed.

It’s not perfect and I spot check everything but it’s given my family so much more time back as a result.

6. Maximize conversations in the car

When taking the kids to school both my husband and I like to go over the family motto and talk to our kids. Sometimes it’s silly and sometimes it’s sweet. But it’s always a rich time of intentional conversation.

Being fully present in these moments is everything when time is limited during work, school, activities and play.

7. Showing up 100% for work

Moving into the work day, I always make sure I’m using every minute of the day for meetings, email catch up, client calls and connecting with my employees. I ensure that every bit of my work day is scheduled and planned for maximum success.

At pick up time, I shut down and put my work phone away for the evening to be fully present at pick up and after school.

8. Daily traditions

Since becoming a working mom, finding moments to connect with my kids has been a huge priority. I don’t get the random car chats with my toddlers so I have to maximize time with them when I do get it. I’ve set up daily traditions with them to help them feel connected to me despite being separated for so many hours during the day.

One thing we do is we established a family motto. We talk about the family motto on the way to school and then after school talk about how we all put it into practice during the day despite doing our own thing.

It’s a way they feel connected to me, my day and they can do the same with their day. It’s been a really sweet tradition.
