If you’re on the search to make your check in experience smooth for your guests, upgrading your Airbnb locks could be the best solution. Guests want a smooth, contactless, self-help experience these days and technology makes this possible!

I have been using keypad or smart locks for my properties since 2019. The technology and number of players in the game now are drastically different.

I did a lot of research on smart lock and keypad options and I will break down my favorite combo below.

This post is all about Airbnb locks.

Airbnb Locks

What’s the difference between a keypad and smart lock?

A smart lock is a lock that can be unlocked on your phone from anywhere. A keypad is just a keyless entry with no ability to unlock remotely. They are both great options for a contactless, keyless experience for your guests.

A keypad can have various codes preprogrammed and changed but all changes have to be done at the physical keypad.

On the contrary, a smart lock is connected via WiFi to an app on your phone and can be locked, unlocked and code changes can be done remotely.

Airbnb recently integrated with Schlage, August and Yale smart locks and will automatically generate unique door codes for your guests. This has been such as game changer for my business!

What are the best keypad locks?

While I don’t think keypad locks are the way for Airbnb hosts, I always have one on a back door at my Airbnb properties as a back up. This way if the smart lock malfunctions, you have a back up!

1. TEEHO

This Teeho keypad lock is the number 1 most reviewed lock on Amazon with over 16,000 reviews as of the time of this writing.

2. Schlage

This brand is always tried and true.

3. Kwikset

Like the Schlage locks, Kwikset has a long reputation of being reliable.

What are the best smart locks?

Smart locks are the way for Airbnb hosts. I use them on all my properties and they always guarantee a 5 star check in experience from my guests! Below are all my favorite smart locks, including the ones I use on my properties.

1. Schlage

The Schlage Encode and Encode Plus is the lock I use on all my properties. It was the first to be integrated with the Airbnb platform and has the best battery life of any smart lock I’ve found. That is the draw back to smart locks is ensuring they are always charged. You need to make sure this is on your cleaners checklist of things to check when doing turnovers.

2. Yale

Yale is an approved Airbnb smart lock and will fully integrate with the app making it another great option for hosts. I’ve linked all the versions that the Airbnb app will integrate with for a contactless check in experience for your guests.

3. August

August is the latest lock to integrate with the Airbnb app. That’s why I included them here because they are going to create that same contactless check in experience for your guests.

4. Kwikset

Kwikset smart locks are great but they are not yet compatible with the Airbnb app smart check in feature. At least at the time of this writing. I personally use these smart locks on my units that are mainly rented out to Travel nurses who will be staying long term. Linked below are the exact Kwikset locks I use at my properties.
