I don’t know about you but when it comes to safety, I want to make sure everyone in my family is always taken care of! And that’s why, when hosting with Airbnb, you want to go through your Airbnb safety checklist often to make sure everything is up-to-date.
Airbnb has an entire section dedicated to guest safety on every listing. In this article we will break that list down as well as go over some other guest safety items you need in your listings.
This post is all about Airbnb safety checklist.
Airbnb Safety Checklist Items
The beautiful part about Airbnb is that they have already dedicated a section in every listing labeled “Guest Safety” where hosts can properly inform on safety. Let’s breakdown this section of the listing set up and see what it includes and what else you will need to put in your listing to ensure guests have all the information they need.
Airbnb Safety Tips
When you go into your listing set up there’s a dedicated section called “Guest Safety”. Find this section and click on it and when you open it, the screen will look like the screenshot below:
Under “Guest Safety” there are three subheadings: “Safety considerations”, “Safety devices” and “Property info”. You will need to go into each heading and properly fill out each section. Let’s dive into each section.
Safety considerations
The “Safety considerations” section has 7 prompted yes or no questions for you to fill out about the property. You want to make sure each one has a response and think through every aspect of your listing to ensure guests get a thorough view.
If any of the 7 questions is responded to with a “yes” you will have the opportunity to fill out “more details” for your guests to understand what to expect.
Setting proper guest expectations is crucial to having minimal issues when they’re on site and staying with you for their vacation.
Safety devices
The next section allows you to input all information about safety devices present on the property. If any of these types of devices are present, you will be prompted to add details for your guests to review and understand what is on site.
Property info
The last section that Airbnb has for Guest safety is property info. This has 7 questions that need to be thoroughly responded to as well. If anything is checked “yes” you will again be prompted to add more details.
Airbnb Safety Checklist
It’s so awesome that Airbnb includes all of these items in their Guest safety section of each listing. You have to ensure that you are keeping this section fully up to date and checking it frequently for accuracy.
On top of having this section fully filled out, I have found 5 other items that are important to have at every listing for guest safety.
1. First aid kit
Having a first aid kit available for people to use is such a great amenity. It’s important to either put it in an obvious spot for guest to see or point out where they can locate it in the welcome book. Having basic first aid available is so nice for small injuries, especially if you’re catering your listing towards families.
Below is the basic first aid kit I keep in my properties and try to keep well stocked between guests.
2. Emergency phone numbers in the Airbnb welcome book
If there’s ever a true emergency, hopefully your guests will be savvy enough to call 911. But it absolutely does not hurt to call that out on the first page of your Airbnb welcome book. I have a great free template I can email you below for a copy of my Airbnb Welcome Book I use in my properties.
In this book, I include a section that provides the following:
- For all emergencies call 911
- Emergency room information including the address and approximate travel time
- Nearest hospital including the address and approximate travel time
- Local fire department phone number
- Local police department phone number

3. Back up key for Smart locks
Now, this one may just seem like an Airbnb essential to have on hand but I also think this is for guest safety. If guests are standing outside your vacation rental without anyway to access it, it could be a safety hazard.
I’m not saying that your property is in a bad neighborhood or anything just that it could open them up to be in a vulnerable situation. They need to know where and how to access a back up key in case of an emergency or the lock goes dead.

4. Fire extinguisher
In a lot of municipalities, having an accessible fire extinguisher is required for getting your short term rental permit. This isn’t the case for every market so check your local laws. However, I have this as an essential item for safety due to its practicality.
Guests are cooking in an unfamiliar kitchen or building a fire in a fireplace, maybe for the first time ever. You want them to have access to a fire extinguisher.
5. Automatic lights on the exterior
Flood lights by the parking for late arrivals are so helpful for late check ins and you do not have to worry about leaving lights on outside. Solar lights that will automatically turn on to light any pathways that lead up to the front door are crucial for those late night arrivals as well.
Guests are not going to be familiar with your property so ensuring late night arrivals during their stay are smooth is important. Having any night time photos of these amenities in action could really put your guests at ease as well!
What do you have on your Airbnb safety checklist? I’d love to know in the comments!
