Airbnb Kitchenette Design Inspiration
I have compiled 5 examples of great kitchenette ideas and that will fit in almost any space you have!
This is one of my personal Airbnb listings and the apartment is under 400 square feet. When designing this build out, my husband said that balance in all the spaces is key so we opted for a kitchenette instead of a full size kitchen to create balance throughout the space.

I love this blue beachy bar kitchenette! It’s a great use of this wall and the open shelf makes it easy to see all the glasses that are available. You could make the cocktail of your dreams here. The fun part of a kitchenette, is you can do a color choice that might not work in a full size kitchen because of the small footprint.

This kitchenette and bar cart set up screams “EFFICIENCY!” Every amenity in a large kitchen was put in here just on a compact scale. What an inspiration to see all that can actually fit into a small space.

I love the simplicity of this one. You could prep a coffee or tea and simple breakfast here. This is the perfect solution for an area that doesn’t have access to plumbing for a sink.

This last kitchenette has fun color and a big sink and refrigerator. If you have a family friendly listing, I’d encourage these two items for toddler snacks and clean up for families. Now let’s dive into Airbnb kitchen essentials for a kitchenette.

Airbnb Kitchenette Essentials
1. Coffee Maker
A coffee maker is a non-negotiable now in any Airbnb listing. Here’s the three I always have used in my properties. The best way to choose which one is right for your listing? If you want to provide coffee, I’d recommend a Keurig. Providing single use coffee pods is super easy for your cleaners to restock and doesn’t make a mess for guests. If you have a higher end listing, move from a Keurig to a Nespresso.
2. Microwave
All hotels have microwaves (popcorn and movie night!) so your listing should have one too. They’re probably the most commonly used kitchen appliance by travelers and obviously a great way for guests to eat left overs or families to heat snacks and bottles for little ones.
3. Refrigerator
You need at least a mini fridge but a small apartment size fridge that has a freezer too will take your listing to the next level. Most people travel with snacks of some sort and even if guests don’t use it, it will still elevate your listing knowing they have the option to purchase cold foods during their stay.
4. Counter top
Give your guests somewhere to place snacks and groceries in the Airbnb kitchenette area. This area would also be used to prep any food or coffee in the morning. It doesn’t need to be a large space but just enough to fit a cutting board. If you have a sink, a great way to fit in counterspace is a wood insert that covers over the sink to save space.
5. Sink
Not every place is going to have the plumbing to accommodate this but if you can incorporate a sink so guests are washing cups in the bathroom sink, that would be so nice! It totally grosses me out in hotels when there’s no separate sink to rinse out cups and bottles even though I know the bathroom sink was just cleaned by housekeeping.
6. Hot plate
I’d only suggest this if you have a bigger space for a kitchenette and good counter space for guests to use the hot plate. But guests can cook some pretty complex meals with just a 2 burner hot plate.
7. Countertop oven
I love these for kitchenettes! They’re so great for again providing versatile cooking options for guests. Again, like the hot plate, you’ll want to have plenty of counter space in the kitchenette so guests can place the hot baking sheets after cooking.
8. Air fryer
An air fryer is a safe and versatile way to cook many different kinds of meals. If you have the space in your kitchenette, I’d recommend an air fryer. This could be a good alternative to a countertop oven since guests should be able to do most things with the air fryer that they could do with the countertop oven.
9. Plates, bowls, cups and silverware
These are Airbnb kitchen essentials for every listing that offers any kind of cooking space. Hotel rooms provide these basics and so should you as an Airbnb host. Below are links to some of my favorites.
10. Basic cooking utensils
I have my favorite cooking utensil set links in my Airbnb kitchen essentials post but that set would be too overwhelming for a kitchenette set up. These are going to largely depend on the appliances you provide in your kitchenette. Here’s a basic sets but purchase the exact cooking utensils your guests will need to keep it simple and clutter free.
11. Dish rack
This is essential to any kitchenette set up. Bonus points if you have enough space for a small dishwasher or drawer dishwasher!
12. Dish towels
Do not let your guests resort to using bath towels to dry dishes, provide a towel or two so they can easily dry and put away dishes. Especially if you require this in your check out instructions.
